Serengeti National Park

The Maasai called it siringet, the place where the land runs on forever, and when you drive down off the Ngorongoro highlands onto the short-grass plains you understand why. Serengeti National Park was established in 1951 and sits at the heart of an ecosystem that reaches north into Kenya's Masai Mara.

Most of our safaris base themselves in the central Serengeti around the Seronera valley. The Seronera River keeps water here through the dry months, so the area holds game all year: lion prides that our guides know by territory, leopards draped along the sausage-tree branches, cheetah on the open grass, and hyena, buffalo, giraffe, topi and gazelle.

The park is also the stage for the wildebeest migration, more than a million animals with zebra and gazelle that follow the rains in a loop through the south, the western corridor along the Grumeti River and the far north. Where the herds are depends on the month, so tell your specialist when you plan to travel and we will place you in the right part of the park.
