This safari spends all five days in one place, and that place is the Serengeti. Instead of long drives from Arusha, you fly into Seronera Airstrip in the middle of the park and are on your first game drive by the afternoon. With four nights in the central Serengeti, there is time to look properly for the predators, to follow the herds if they are nearby, and to see the plains from the air on a sunrise balloon flight.
Staying in one area also makes for an easier pace than a road safari, with no packing up each morning. Your guide plans each day around the season and around what you most want to see, whether that is cheetah on the open plains or leopards in the river valleys.
Flights to and from Seronera are not included in the price. Your specialist will book them to fit your wider plans, whether you are coming from Arusha, Kilimanjaro or Zanzibar.
Travellers short on time who do not want long road transfers, photographers who want several days in one park, and anyone combining the Serengeti with Zanzibar or a Kilimanjaro climb.

what makes it special
day by day
Your light aircraft lands at Seronera Airstrip in the heart of the Serengeti, where your guide is waiting with the vehicle. After a short transfer to your camp or lodge and lunch, you set out on your first game drive. Within the first hour you may already have seen lion, elephant and giraffe, as the Seronera area holds wildlife all year. You return at sunset for dinner.
Today is a full day out on the plains with a picnic lunch. Where you go depends on the month. If the wildebeest and zebra of the Great Migration are within reach, your guide will take you to them; if not, the central Serengeti has plenty of resident game, from cheetah on the open grass to hyena, leopard and big herds of topi and gazelle. You return to your camp in the evening.
The balloon team collects you before dawn and drives you to the launch site. As the sun rises you drift silently over the plains for about an hour, watching the herds and the river valleys from above. On landing you sit down to a bush breakfast with a glass of sparkling wine, then continue on a game drive with your guide, who meets you at the landing site. Dinner and the night are at your camp.
Your last full day takes you to a different part of the Serengeti, perhaps the Moru Kopjes to the south-west or the Simba Kopjes on the eastern plains, depending on where the game is best. Each area has its own character and wildlife, and the longer drive shows you how varied the park is. A picnic lunch is served out in the park, and you return to camp for a final dinner.
Make the most of your final morning with an early game drive, when the cats are active and the light is soft. After breakfast your guide drives you back to Seronera Airstrip in time for your onward flight, whether that is to Arusha, Kilimanjaro, another park or the coast. There is often time to look for one last lion on the way to the airstrip.

You can go on safari here all year. The dry season from June to October is the easiest time for game viewing, because animals gather near rivers and the grass is short, but it is also the busiest. From November to May the parks are green, quieter and excellent for birds, with short rains around November and the long rains in April and May. Where the wildebeest migration is depends on the month, so tell us your dates and we will plan the route around them.
Our safaris use 4x4 safari vehicles with a pop-up roof, so you can stand up for game viewing and photography. On a private safari the vehicle and driver-guide are yours alone for the whole trip.
Each tour page lists exactly what is included and excluded. On our northern circuit safaris, such as the 7-day Lake Manyara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Tarangire trip, national park and Ngorongoro Conservation Area entrance fees are included. If you are not sure, ask your specialist before you book.
Yes. Every itinerary on this site is a starting point. We can add or remove days, swap parks, or change the accommodation to suit your budget, and your specialist will send you a revised plan and quote.
Bring light, neutral-coloured clothes, a warm layer for early mornings and for the Ngorongoro Crater rim, which is cold at night, comfortable shoes, a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and insect repellent. Binoculars and a camera with spare batteries and memory cards make a big difference. Soft bags pack into safari vehicles more easily than hard suitcases.
Most visitors need a visa. Apply online in good time through the official Tanzania Immigration website at eservices.immigration.go.tz, and do not use unofficial agents. Your passport should be valid for at least six months after arrival. Requirements differ by nationality, so check the official site for your country.
The balloon flight is part of this itinerary, but balloon prices change each season, so your specialist will show it clearly in your quote. If you would rather skip it, Day 3 becomes another full day of game drives.
