Zanzibar

The Zanzibar archipelago lies in the Indian Ocean off Tanzania's coast. Its white-sand beaches and clear water are a good place to rest after a safari or a climb, and the reefs offshore are good for snorkelling and diving.

There is much more than the beach. Stone Town, the old quarter of Zanzibar City, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site of narrow lanes, carved wooden doors and Swahili, Arab, Indian and European buildings. Boats run out to Changuu, also called Prison Island, and Jozani Forest is home to the rare Zanzibar red colobus monkey.

Zanzibar has long been known as the Spice Island, and when you arrive you may notice the scent of cloves and cinnamon in the air. Spice farms welcome visitors, and the island's food, from the street stalls of Stone Town to seafood by the beach, is part of the experience.

Zanzibar is a short flight from Arusha, Kilimanjaro or Dar es Salaam, or a ferry ride from Dar es Salaam. From the island we also run flying safaris to Mikumi and Nyerere national parks, so you can see wildlife without leaving the coast for long.
