Yes. On a private safari you can plan whatever itinerary you like, within practical and logistical limits, and we will quote for your special requirements. Every itinerary on our website can also be customised.
Yes. Send us the dates you plan to go on safari or climb, and our safari consultant will tell you about any groups you can join.
For the busy months, from June to October and over Christmas, it is best to book several months ahead, as popular lodges fill up early. Shorter notice is often possible at other times, so ask us.

We often offer discounted safari programmes in the April to June low season, and may offer group discounts in that period. Ask us about current offers.
We accept cash in US dollars, British pounds and euros, and major credit cards (Visa and Mastercard). No payments are taken on this website.
Yes. Once you confirm your itinerary, we ask for a deposit to start the booking process.
International flights, visas, travel insurance, tips, drinks and personal spending are usually extra. Your quote lists exactly what is and is not included.
Most visitors need a visa. Apply online through the official Tanzania Immigration site, eservices.immigration.go.tz, well before you travel, and avoid unofficial agents. Some nationalities do not need a visa, so check the official guidelines for your passport.
At least six months beyond your arrival date, with blank pages for entry stamps.
A yellow fever certificate is required if you arrive from, or transit through, a country with yellow fever risk. Malaria is present in much of Tanzania, including Zanzibar. See a doctor or travel clinic four to six weeks before you travel for advice on vaccines and malaria tablets.
For safaris in the north and Kilimanjaro, fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), between Arusha and Moshi. Dar es Salaam (DAR) suits the southern parks, and Zanzibar (ZNZ) has its own international airport.
The local currency is the Tanzanian shilling. US dollars are widely used in tourism, but bring clean, recent notes, as old or torn notes are often refused. Cash machines are found in towns, and larger hotels accept cards.
Tanzania has two rainy seasons: short rains around November and December, and long rains from about March to May. The rest of the year is mostly dry. Nights are cool in the highlands and cold on the mountains, while the coast is warm and humid.

Yes. Any safari can be booked with a vehicle for your party only. The cost of the vehicle and driver-guide is divided by the number of people sharing it, so the price per person drops as your group grows. A vehicle takes a maximum of 7 passengers, each with a window seat.
Yes. Choose budget camping with dome tents, which is flexible and costs less, or luxury mobile camping for small groups. A popular option combines lodges with permanent tented camps on a private safari.
Yes, for any child old enough to enjoy the wilderness. Long drives on rough roads are hard for infants and very young children. Some small tented camps do not accept children under 12, while safari lodges accept children from 2 years, and many lodges offer an extra bed for a child sharing with parents.
Safaris in the northern parks run all year, while parts of the south and west are hard to reach in the rains. The busiest periods are mid-December to mid-March and July to mid-September. June and October are also excellent, with fewer visitors.
The wildebeest and zebra herds gather in the southern Serengeti in January and February, when they give birth. From around March they move north and west through the Serengeti, reach the Maasai Mara in Kenya around July and August, and start returning south through the Serengeti in September.
Stay in the vehicle unless your guide says otherwise, keep a respectful distance from animals, never feed them, keep noise down and take all litter with you. Single-use plastic bags are banned in Tanzania.
Always ask first. Most people are happy to be photographed if asked politely, but some are not, and that should be respected.
There is mobile signal in many areas, but it can be weak or absent in remote parts of the parks. Most lodges and camps have charging points, though some run on solar power or generators for set hours.
Drink bottled or filtered water, which is provided on safari. Avoid tap water, including for brushing your teeth, unless your lodge tells you it is treated.
You need good general fitness and the ability to walk for several hours a day on uneven ground. Technical climbing skills are not needed, but regular hill walking before the trip makes a big difference.

Meru is lower and shorter, but its summit ridge is steep. Kilimanjaro is higher and needs more days to acclimatise. Many climbers do Meru first as preparation.
