First Cave Camp

First Cave Camp, also called Rongai Cave or Rongai One, is the first night's stop on the Rongai route, on Kilimanjaro's quieter northern side at around 2,830 metres. You reach it after walking from the maize fields near Nale Moru up through pine forest, home to black-and-white colobus monkeys. The tents stand where the forest thins at the edge of the moorland, with wide views over the plains towards Kenya. There are no big caves to explore, but in quieter months the camp has a real sense of wilderness.
