Umbwe Cave Camp

Umbwe Cave Camp is the first night on the Umbwe route, a secluded clearing at 2,850 metres in the montane forest, close to the caves that give it its name. You reach it after a steep day climbing from Umbwe Gate through damp rainforest. Next morning the trail climbs out of the trees for about 6 km, roughly four hours, to Barranco Camp, where the Umbwe route meets the Machame and Lemosho routes.
