where you stay
Mweka Camp sits at 3,100 metres in the moorland zone on Kilimanjaro's southern slopes, and it is the last night on the mountain for most climbers. The Machame, Lemosho, Shira and Umbwe routes all come down this way after summit day, so you reach camp with the summit behind you and sleep among giant heather. Next morning it is about 10 km, roughly three hours, down through the rainforest to Mweka Gate.
